A total 48,674 illegal migrants were reported to be in ICE detention during President Donald Trump's second administration through May 23, 2025, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection data tracked by NBC News.

The data showed that 30.6% of the detainees had past criminal convictions, 26.5% had pending criminal charges, 43.2% were listed as "other immigration violator" and 9.9% were fast-tracked for deportation. The number of people deported by ICE hasn't been regularly released to the public, however, NBC News had previously reported that 11,000 migrants were deported in February, just over 12,300 during the first four weeks of March and approximately 17,200 in April.

Last month, border czar Tom Homan claimed during an appearance on FOX and Friends that only nine illegal migrants were reported to have been released into the U.S. during the first 100 days of Trump's second term in office. The reported total is a 99.99% decrease from the 184,000 who entered the country during the same period of time under President Joe Biden's administration last year.

“President Trump is a game changer,” Homan said. “What’s happening on the border, he did in seven weeks what Joe Biden couldn’t — or wouldn’t — do in four years.”

Trump, who made illegal immigration a key talking point during his successful re-election campaign, declared a national emergency at the southern border during his first day in office on January 20.
